![]() ![]() it's like 99p for an ebook, it'll take you thirty five minutes to read. I've never heard it talked about and am now intent on spreading the gospel of this brilliant short story. it's got these wonderful scifi overtones, the characters have depth and personality, and there's every chance as soon as i finish typing this im going to read it again. It is such a whistle stop tour of scientific morality and mortality, it's like frankenstein in a quarter of the time. This is the third Penguin Mini Modern Classic and the first Daphne Du Maurier that Ive read, and it was a haunting, thought-provoking experience. ![]() it was brilliantly written, lovely and gothic, and very interesting but i never properly loved it the way many other people do.īut i am absolutely in love with The Breakthrough. ![]() Gonna be honest, i didnt really like rebecca all that much. so, in my rush, i decided to read the shortest du maurier story i could find, which was The Breakthrough at a whopping 50-something pages So, for a uni interview on monday i just found out one of the interviewers is a du maurier specialist - im well acquainted with rebecca, and am pretty familiar with jamaica inn (read part of it a while back), but scrambled to at least properly read another one. ![]()
